Working in collaboration with The Flaxmill, this exciting project focuses on sound experimentation, creating tracks with sounds found and recorded around the heritage site. Young people are given the opportunity to engage with the history of their community, through creativity, to produce sound compositions, bring together imagery and plan an exhibition and event to showcase the work. Skills in audio recording, sound design, creative expression, event planning and DJ set up, beat making and matching will be explored whilst building stronger connections with local heritage and place.
25th July at Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings (1pm - 4pm) - Introduction to project, field recording, taking photos and tour.
22nd August at The Hive (2pm - 5pm) - Production with DJ Rob Griffiths (2 young people at a time), other young people learning DJ set up and practice on decks with workshop leader Kate Turley.
26th September at Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings (2pm - 5pm) - Event planning, look at space, idea.
